In March 2009, in company with seventy dancers, musicians and singers, Sasha Waltz explored the empty rooms of the Neues Museum on the Museum island Berlin. Following almost ten years of reconstruction under the supervision of David Chipperfield Architects the building stood at a one-off point in its metamorphosis. Subsequent to the completion of the renovation and ahead of the Berlin State Museums of the being installed in the restored rooms, the location became the site for an unusual temporary »exhibition« which electrified more than ten thousand visitors.

Tanssi on työtä ja työ on tanssia. Näin voisi kiteyttää kahden tanssitaiteilijan, Saila Reiniön ja Jukka Ristolaisen, elämänfilosofian. Saila ja Jukka valmistuivat tanssitaiteilijoiksi vuonna 2002 ja muuttivat maalle tarkoituksenaan tutkia omaa suhdettaan tanssiin ja keholliseen ilmaisuun. Elämää leimaa kova työnteko, mutta yhtäkkiä arjen askareet saattavat muuttua tanssiesitykseksi, jolla ei välttämättä ole ollenkaan yleisöä tai se tallentuu videoteokseksi. Saila Reiniö toteaa: “Joku voisi sanoa, että olemme syrjäytyneitä. Mutta syrjäytyneitä mistä? Ehkä syrjäytyneitä oravanpyörästä.”

Slow Dance is a documentary about two professional dancers, Saila Reiniö and Jukka Ristolainen, who decide to leave the busy city and start their pre-industrial style of life in a small village. Someone could think them as an alienated couple, but actually their old house is a social meeting point for the villagers. Every year, Jukka and Saila organize a modern dance festival in their house and have the best dancers possible performing for the villagers who would never see such dance otherwise.

Tanssitaiteilijat Kati Kallio ja Elli Isokoski (Myrskyryhmä) kokoontuivat yhdeksän raatilaisen kera katsomaan, arvioimaan ja keskustelemaan tanssielokuvista. Raati katsoi yhteensä 19 elokuvaa, jotka oli esikarsittu avoimen haun elokuvista sekä erikseen valikoiduista teoksista. Päämääränä oli koota 50-60 min elokuvasarja, joka sisältää elokuvia joita he haluaisivat nähdä uudelleen. Kohdeyleisöksi näytökselle asetettiin ikäihmiset ja lapset.

Näytöksen jälkeen järjestetään yleisökeskustelutuokio raatilaisten ja paikalla olevien elokuvatekijöiden kanssa. Raatilaiset kertovat työskentelystään ja mietteitään elokuvista.

This year’s Citizen Jury screening was curated by nine senior citizens from the Kinapori Service Home. Dance artists Kati Kallio and Elli Isokoski sat down to view, discuss and select dance films with the aim of creating a screening of works that the jury members would like to see again, and that would be particularly aimed at senior citizens and children.

After the screening, the jury members will discuss their thoughts and selections with the audience and filmmakers.

A new landscape is taking form in Montreal’s contemporary dance scene. Distinguishing themselves are choreographers Virginie Brunelle, Frédérick Gravel, and Dave St-Pierre. Somewhere between theater, performance, and dance, these artists stage pieces with current and universal themes, all the while questioning form. “Aux limites de la scène” (At the Edge of the Scene)explores the work of these three choreographers with a mosaic of interviews, excerpts of their work, and candid moments from their everyday life. The film follows their creative process and reveals how a new generation of Montréal choreographers is shaking up and provoking the world of contemporary dance.

Tanssi on työtä ja työ on tanssia. Näin voisi kiteyttää kahden tanssitaiteilijan, Saila Reiniön ja Jukka Ristolaisen, elämänfilosofian. Saila ja Jukka valmistuivat tanssitaiteilijoiksi vuonna 2002 ja muuttivat maalle tarkoituksenaan tutkia omaa suhdettaan tanssiin ja keholliseen ilmaisuun. Elämää leimaa kova työnteko, mutta yhtäkkiä arjen askareet saattavat muuttua tanssiesitykseksi, jolla ei välttämättä ole ollenkaan yleisöä tai se tallentuu videoteokseksi. Saila Reiniö toteaa: “Joku voisi sanoa, että olemme syrjäytyneitä. Mutta syrjäytyneitä mistä? Ehkä syrjäytyneitä oravanpyörästä.”

Slow Dance is a documentary about two professional dancers, Saila Reiniö and Jukka Ristolainen, who decide to leave the busy city and start their pre-industrial style of life in a small village. Someone could think them as an alienated couple, but actually their old house is a social meeting point for the villagers. Every year, Jukka and Saila organize a modern dance festival in their house and have the best dancers possible performing for the villagers who would never see such dance otherwise.
