Sarjan elokuvat leikkivät elokuvareferensseillä ja elokuvankerronnan keinoilla. Ne asettavat muodon ja liikkeellisen sisällön rinnakkain katsomisen keskiöön ja tuovat eteemme kiinnostavan katsauksen tanssielokuvan muotojen mahdollisuuksiin.

These eight films play with film references and the cinematic form. They place form and movement equally in the viewpoint and parade the multiple possibilities of cinematic form in dance film. Shot in one take, in Six the choreographed camera floats as one the performers and in Pelican dance cinematic historical references are clearly in forefront.
Elokuvalliset lainat ja viittaukset ovat useassa elokuvassa keskeisesti näkyvillä. Sing the Sand into Pearlsin kolmen naisen tanssiva vaellus päättyy kohtaukseen, johon on poimittu tunnelmia Peter Weirin kulttielokuvasta Huviretki hirttopaikalle. Fallissa koreografioiden asettelu lokaatioihin lainaa Wendersin Pina- sekä Opus Jazz -elokuvien loistavia kaupunkikuvia. Kuubalaisten nuorten tanssijoiden vangitsevan vakava esiintyminen imaisee katsojan mukaansa.
Vanishing Point ja End of the Block -teoksissa tarinaa kannattelevat yhtäläisesti moderni katutanssiliike ja elokuvalliset keinot. Kotimainen Narri taas luottaa maisemassa liikkuvan pallon ja akrobaattisen liikkeen toistuvuuden vangitsevuuteen.
Yhden oton Sixissä eläväisesti soljuva kamera on yksi tanssijoista. Elokuva vertautuu mykkäelokuvan estetiikkaa hyödyntävään The Pelican Danceen. Sarjan ehdoton helmi, Outside In pelaa oivaltavasti kankaalle luoduilla sisäkkäisillä imaginäärisillä tiloilla, nojaten silti vahvan esiintyjän karismaattiseen suoritukseen.

In Sing the Sand into Pearls the movement journey of three women takes us to the beach, where the atmosphere resembles Peter Weir’s cult film Picnic at Hanging Rock. Fall places the choreography in a location similar to Pina and Opus Jazz, and the captivating seriousness of the young dances engages the audience. Street dance and cinematic form carry the story in Vanishing Point and End of the Block. Finnish Narri relies in the captivity of repetition. Outside In plays ingeniously with layered imaginary space only possible in film still relying on the captivating performer.
