Consisting of short documentaries, Focus On Why unveils the mindset of a dancer as well as several different ways of approaching movement. Why do I dance and what does dance mean to me?
The screening begins with Loikka’s artistic director Kati Kallio’s short documentary filmed in Yekaterinburg, Russia. Searching for Flow – Yekaterinburg Episode is a part of Kallio’s documentary project filmed in different parts of the world focusing in the meaning of dance.
Exquisite Corps is a celebration of dance and the moving body by 42 world-famous choreographers. Documentary takes dance to parks, streets and offices with no need for having to use words.
Revenge I-IV describes TADaC dance group’s process of creating a piece through the eyes of the choreographer Elina Pirinen and students finishing their Master’s Degree in dance.
Dedicated to Dance lets the viewers observe from a close distance the Dutch Leine Roebana Dance Company’s rehearsals. The documentary depicts the corporal thinking behind the different ways of exploring movement. The flow-like experience connected to dance is passed on to the viewer as a subtle, holistic journey of exploration.
Danish Nothing Matters When We’re Dancing tells a story of three dance enthusiasts and a dance professional’s relationship towards dance and movement. Through personal stories dance as something that strengthens one’s identity in self expression becomes concrete. Whether they are polished to the finest or derived in a spur of a moment, dance and movement offer a way to explore yourself in relation to your surroundings and others. Can a person be complete without movement?
