The Elements of Surprise is a celebration of dance films made by students! These seven European short films are interconnected through dance and exploring movement from surprising perspectives.
Some Ways to Get Rid of a Body and Prana are flirting with death and inviting the viewer to examine the contrast between hearty dance and giving up the ghost. How does a dream of a dead beloved turned into a dance look like? And how about the persistence of life in a hostile environment?
A regular visit to a laundry room takes an exciting and odd turn when the pile of laundry exhilarates into a wild dance in Catharsis. A human body, in turn, is transformed into a trembling bug in the film Cycles, while animated images conjure stylish samba steps in 1180 and More. Temporal Lineation is a dazzlingly beautiful, abstract installation piece. Blind on the other hand explores en egoistic human relationship: can people swirled into their own worlds find each other once more?
This skillfully paced screening offers enchanting images, rousing moments and plotlines that shake the viewer in a fresh way. If you are interested in new European dance art, this screening is definitely worth watching.
